Festivals and east-coast sun
July is a superb month if you follow the sun east. The east coast is at its best, safari at Yala is excellent in the dry season, and the hill-country town of Kandy hosts the island's most spectacular festival, the Esala Perahera. The south coast is wetter but still sees sunny spells.
